Held in Alta Mora (municipality of Castro Marim), it’s a cultural and family-friendly event that highlights the identity of inland Algarve, right in the low season.

The festival grew out of the hiking walks organised by ARCDAA since 2005. It started small (around 50 participants at the beginning) but quickly became more popular: in 2020, it hit a milestone with over 1,000 walkers, confirming its place in the region’s event calendar.

Over three days, visitors enjoy a rich, authentic programme: hikes along trails lined with almond blossom, a street market (local producers and artisans), a recreated “Craftspeople’s Village” and workshops celebrating traditional know-how (including almond tree planting and making typical local products).

Food-wise, the festival puts local flavours in the spotlight, with a special mention for the giant almond tart, which grows by one metre every year (it reached 43 metres in 2025). A much-loved moment, in a simple, friendly atmosphere.

Beyond the celebration, FAFA has a strong goal: help revitalise one of the most depopulated areas of inland Algarve, fight desertification and promote local heritage. Powered by the community, it mobilises over 100 volunteers, reflecting a real spirit of togetherness.
